Welcome to the home of
Tangled Reel

Tangled Reel are a group of musicians playing mainly traditional Irish Music with the odd Scottish tune thrown in. We also occasionally add in a tune written by members of the band - ie original but in the traditional idiom.
We are based in Perth, Western Australia and came together for our first gig to play for the Irish supporters who came to the International rules game in October 2003.
Most of us have been playing Irish Music in and around Perth for quite some time in various guises.

The Musicians

Donough O'Donovan - guitar
Jennifer Doyle - whistle & fiddle
Tom Brennan - bouzouki, mandolin & Low D whistle
Teresa McCullagh - fiddle & whistle.

Past contributors: Tom DeRidder (fiddle) is unfortunately no longer a part of the group due to the rigours of study at University. Kevin Higgins (flute) joined us for 6 months and played with us at Fairbridge 2004, but had to return to Brisbane.  Colin Mcleod on Fiddle who joined us for Fairbridge 2004 and returned the next year in 2005 after a few proxy rehearsals.

GIGS

We have played a number of gigs after Fairbridge 2004. We did the music for a wedding on Saturday 24th April and then a fundraiser for Notre Dame Uni at the Orient Hotel. That one was eminently forgettable due to the constraints of the sound system. Next there was a gig in the Supreme Court Gardens for 'Buddha's Birthday' bash on 16th May. Bet you didn't know Buddha liked Irish music.

We played at the Guinness Craic Ball (Novotel Langley) on November 19th 2004. We returned to do it again in 2005 and have been asked to do it yet again this year (2006).

On 13th March 2005 we did a gig as part of the summer series of concerts in Guildford Hotel. We had a great turnout and the dancers from Kavanagh Dance School did a great job of dancing on a small practice floor.

In April 2005 we returned to Fairbridge for a couple of sessions that we hosted, and one concert spot in the Wine Bar on the Saturday afternoon. Thanks to all who came along to support us there. We had the opportunity to warm up the audience for Tony McManus.

We continue to be actively involved in different music projects but still regularily get back together for the odd gig. We are applying for the 2007 National Festival in Canberra as well as the Fairbridge festival the following week.
